Traditional Indian street game

Nondi (Hopscotch)

Nondi is the Tamil name for hopscotch: a court of boxes drawn in chalk, a flat stone, and one foot. It is played on pavements and courtyards all over India, with a slightly different court in almost every town.

How it's played on the street

  1. Draw the court in chalk: a row of boxes, some single and some side by side.

  2. Toss your flat stone into the first box. It has to land inside without touching a line.

  3. Hop through the court on one foot, skipping the box with the stone. Where two boxes sit side by side, land with one foot in each.

  4. At the end, turn and hop back, stopping to pick up the stone while still on one foot.

  5. Touch a line, put your other foot down or miss the box with the stone, and your turn ends. Next time you aim for the next box.

  6. After the last box, many streets let you claim a box as your house. The others must hop over it.

How it plays in Vilayo

Hop the chalk court on one foot and win every box. Like every game in Vilayo, it is built in real 3D, and the touch controls do what your hands would do on the street.

Levels are short, and each one gives up to three stars. Easy, Medium and Hard tiers bring new grounds and harder challenges, and the whole game plays offline.
